How to care for wisewool™
When incorporating Wisewool™ into bedding, clothing and furniture products, it's essential to follow proper care practices to preserve the wool’s natural performance, comfort, and longevity.
This guide provides clear instructions for manufacturers and consumers using Wiselayer™ and Wisefill™.
Washing WiseLayer™ (200gsm – 500gsm)
Products containing 200–500gsm Wiselayer™, including duvets, comforters, mattress protectors, quilted bedding, sleeping bags, padded jackets and similar garments, can be machine washed under the following conditions:
Washing machine type: Use a non-agitating machine, such as a front-loader or modern drum-style washing machine.
Cycle and temperature: Select the wool wash cycle and manually set the temperature to cold. Wool wash cycles are commonly preset to 30°C, which is too warm, so cold needs to be selected by hand.
Detergent: Use a wool-approved liquid detergent containing no enzymes, bleach or fabric softeners.
Spin: A light spin at the end of the wool wash cycle is fine to remove excess water. Do not use a high-speed spin or vigorous agitation, as this can cause the wool fibres to mat or felt.
Drying:
Line dry outdoors in fresh air and sunshine where possible.
Alternatively, lay flat on a clean, breathable surface, indoors or outside.
Allow the product to dry completely before use.
Fresh air and sunshine help naturally rejuvenate wool and keep it fresh.
Washing WiseLayer™ (600gsm – 1000gsm)
Products containing 600–1000gsm Wiselayer™, particularly thick or multi-layered products such as mattress toppers, should not be machine washed or immersed in water.
Spot clean only: Gently dab the affected area with a clean cloth or sponge using cold or tepid water and a small amount of wool-approved liquid detergent.
Do not rub, soak or apply direct heat. Allow the area to air dry completely in a well-ventilated space.
These heavier Wiselayer™ products should be cared for in the same way as upholstered furniture.
Wisewool™ does not recommend dry cleaning, as this uses chemicals.
Caring for WiseFill™
Wisefill™ is not designed to be washed.Wisefill™ is not designed to be washed. To maintain its loft, freshness and performance:
Air regularly in fresh air and sunshine where possible.
Avoid washing or soaking, as this can alter the filling structure.
Fresh air and sunshine naturally refresh and revitalise the wool.
Washing the Wisewool™ WiseFill™ Sleep Pillow
The Wisewool™ Sleep Pillow contains Wisefill™ wool filling inside a removable quilted pillowcase made with 200gsm LL Wiselayer™. Never wash the Wisefill™ inside the pillowcase. Always remove it first.
Remove the Wisefill™. Unzip the pillowcase and carefully remove all Wisefill™. Place it in a clean, dry box or basket while the pillowcase is washed.
Wash the pillowcase. Machine wash in a non-agitating front-loading or modern drum washing machine:
Select the wool wash cycle and manually set the temperature to cold.
Use a wool-approved liquid detergent containing no enzymes, bleach or fabric softeners.
A light spin at the end of the cycle is fine. Do not use a high-speed spin or vigorous agitation.
Dry the pillowcase. Line dry in fresh air and sunshine where possible, or lay flat on a clean, breathable surface. Ensure it's completely dry before refilling.
Refresh the Wisefill™. While the pillowcase is being washed and dried, gently hand-tease and fluff the Wisefill™ in its clean, dry container, and air it in fresh air and sunshine where possible. Do not wash or soak the Wisefill™.
Refill the pillow. Once the pillowcase is clean and completely dry, hand-fill the freshly teased Wisefill™ back in, paying attention to the corners and edges. Zip the pillowcase closed, then hold the four corners and gently shake to distribute the filling evenly. Finish by fluffing and shaping the pillow by hand.
Spot Cleaning for Furniture Use
When used in cushions, sofa seating or upholstery and encased in fabric, both Wiselayer™ and Wisefill ™can be lightly spot cleaned as follows:
Do not rub the fabric. Instead, gently dab the affected area.
Use cold or tepid water mixed with a small amount of wool-approved liquid detergent.
Apply using a clean cloth or sponge, then blot gently.
Leave the area exposed to fresh air to dry completely. Avoid applying heat or using mechanical agitation.
